Some anniversaries are measured in years. Ours is measured in people: the elders, families, and care managers who have carried Anvayaa through a decade, and who came together this July for one unforgettable evening in Hyderabad.
We named the evening Kritagnya. It is a Sanskrit word meaning Gratitude. Not the polite, printed-on-a-card kind, but the kind you feel when you look up from a decade of work and realise how many hands carried you through it. Elders who trusted our home elder care service with their health and homes. Families who called from across time zones and chose to believe a voice on the phone. Care managers who left their own dinners cold to sit beside someone else’s parent in a hospital corridor. On one evening in Hyderabad, under one roof, they were all finally in the same room.
Where it began
Our founder, Prashanth Reddy, stood at the podium and took the room back to 2016. “My hair was totally black,” he admitted, “and my dream to change elder care was just beginning.” The hall laughed with him. “Years later, the hair might be grey. But I am just glad it didn’t fall out. More importantly, the dream is still going very, very strong.”
He spoke of the earliest days: four people in a small terrace room, running on caffeine and pure panic, trying to build something India did not have. Families could find home nurse services for elders through one agency and a home attendant service in India through another, but there was no single place to turn to for everything their parents needed. Ten years later, that terrace room has grown into a senior care service in India, spanning 38+ cities and serving over 1.5 lakh families, with thousands of medical emergencies attended to and 97% reached on time.
He said that number sounds great on a slide. In the room, it landed differently. Behind that 97% are mothers who made it to the hospital in the small hours, fathers who woke up to a familiar face beside the bed, and children abroad who got the call that said “everything is alright” instead of the one they feared.
The people we bowed to
Kritagnya was never meant to be a celebration of Anvayaa. It was a celebration of the generation we serve, and the evening belonged to its most remarkable members.
We honoured our Gallantry Awardees, heroes whose courage kept this country safe long before we knew their names, their medals catching the stage lights as the hall rose to applaud them. We felicitated Padma Shri awardees whose lifetimes of devotion to art and heritage have shaped who we are as a people, among them Dr. Brahmanandam, who has given India more laughter than perhaps any actor alive.
What he said about us is something we will hold on to for the next ten years: “Built with such a noble and genuine intention.”
And because gratitude should outlast an evening, we made our guests of honour a promise. Every one of them will receive lifetime emergency response assistance from Anvayaa. They spent their lives serving. The least we can do is make sure someone is always there to serve them.
Words we will not forget
Actor Gehna Sippy put the heart of our work into one line: “It’s not just about treating illnesses. It’s about preserving their dignity and making them feel valued.” Anyone who has cared for an ageing parent knows how true that is. Medicines manage the body. Dignity is what keeps a person whole.
Dr. S. K. Joshi, IAS (Retd.), former Chief Secretary of Telangana, has watched our journey from close quarters. “I have been associated with this journey, and I am proud of that,” he told the gathering. “You have done a great job. Society is thankful to you.” When a man who has spent his career in public service says that, you sit a little straighter, and you work a little harder.
And then, the ramp
If you were there, you know the moment the evening truly caught fire. It was not a speech. It was a lady in a pink saree, sunglasses on, stepping onto the ramp as if she owned it. Because for those few minutes, she did.
Our elders walked, twirled, waved, and laughed their way across that stage while the hall cheered them on. Gentlemen in sharp jackets. Ladies in silks. A generation that has been told for too long to slow down, showing an entire ballroom what grace with attitude looks like. Between the classical music that opened the evening and the conversations our senior guests shared on stage, one truth ran through it all: ageing is not a retreat from life. With the right care and the right company, it is one more stage to walk on.
A decade of kinship, and the one ahead
The theme of the evening was “A Decade of Kinship: Bridging Generations Through Innovation and Care.” That word, kinship, is the most honest description of what these ten years have been. Somewhere along the way, care plans became relationships. The caretaker for the elderly at home became “beta.” A service became family.
To every elder who let us into their home, who trusted us from thousands of kilometres away, who treats someone else’s parents like their own: Kritagnya. Thank you.
The first decade was a promise kept. The next one starts now.
